Where this is going
Illuminators exist to show, week by week, that trust, accountability and human connection transform healthcare, to share the practices behind the proof, and to gather the people ready to lead with love where they are.

American healthcare does not lack knowledge or technology. It lacks the ability to solve complex problems together. We have separated the people who need to be connected: physicians from staff, specialists from one another, patients from the people meant to care for them. When those connections are restored and held to account, quality rises, harm falls, and cost falls with it. If every hospital took the steps University Hospitals has taken, the savings would be measured in the hundreds of billions each year. (Figure to confirm.)
That is the near horizon. The far one is larger. Healthcare touches every family and employs millions. A healthcare system that leads with love does not only heal patients. It shows what a flourishing society looks like, and it can lead the way there.
How we work
Illuminators is an independent initiative supported by Stand Together. It is not owned by any hospital or health system, which lets it tell the truth about what works and what does not. The methods began at University Hospitals and are now being adopted by other systems. We publish what can be shown, cite what can be checked, and protect the privacy of every patient and colleague in the stories we tell.
If you lead a team, a unit, a hospital or a system, this work is for you. Start with one article. Bring it to one meeting. Watch what happens.
